According to the men, interviewed here by RFA, and who have reliable information on the man who ordered the soldiers fighting against the invasion of the Chinese in the Johnson South Reef on 3/14/1988-- NOT TO FIRE AT THE ENEMIES-- is general Le Duc Anh, the Minister of Defense at the time. He was, originally, a plantation worker. Lying to his communist “supervisors”, Le Duc Anh entered the communist party, and “bought” his way into the favored treatment of former Politburo member Le Duc Tho – counterpart of H. Kissinger in the Paris Accord preparation in 1972. From then on, with the favors granted by Le Duc Tho, he climbed very fast in his military and political careers, and by 1988 was the Minister of Defense of Vietnam.Now, this is one example of one type of general and one type of personality; Nong Duc Manh, former weak boss of the party is another; Phung Quang Thanh, Nguyen Phu Trong, Nguyen Tan Dung others. There are parallel types of leaders in present communist Vietnam who share similar traits of corruption, cowardice, all-for-himself, low-life characters. Worst form of government, in disarray, will give out the worst leaders and generals. Communist Vietnam was in disarray economically, politically and socially since 1975, and started to behave like a satellite of China after then- Secretary General Nguyen Van Linh and others came to Chengdu in 1990. A part of them will run before the enemy come. Not in the least of trying to have any comparison, but just giving a tint of contrasting : if placed them in the shadows of the generals of South Vietnam who committed suicide around 4/30/1975, like Generals Nguyễn Khoa Nam, Lê Văn Hưng, Lê Nguyên Vỹ, Phạm Văn Phú, Nguyễn Văn Hai to uphold their honor and sense of responsibility to the country and the people, some types of leaders and generals of the present communist Vietnam are like little worms to heroic princes in the hearts of the people. Should this surprise anyone too much as stated that it is very likely that a worst form of government, in disarray, will produce such low-lives and cowards ? Maybe not so much, if looking at it with the viewpoint of Marx’s historical materialism, and it will be worst at time or stage of defunct or disintegration. After 60, 70 years of being taught, indoctrinated, pressed on, of the significance of the material, plus practical experience in which moral, spiritual values were eaten away by cheats, lies, stealing, robbing etc.; of having no values placed upon the spiritual/religious dimension of life, or the natural love and bond to their country, as well as having to "carry" the communist party on top of everything, together with the bribes, the spoils, the special treats gained in a dictatorial, corrupt system, how would you expect these creatures of “lost souls”, of convenience, opportunity, and corruptive hearts become ?
