Salute to the American hero Captain John Ripley, USMC, friend-brother-in-arms of our bravest soldiers Major Lê Bá Bình, commander of the 3rd battalion of VNMC and 700 of his men.
Captain Ripley hanged on to the beams of the bridge nearly 4 hours to place 500 lbs of explosives and blew up the Dong Ha bridge under the fire support of our troops and rain of fire shots from our adversary, to stop the advance of 3 mechanized divisions of North Vietnam Army, 30,000 infantry, 150-200 T-54 and PT-76 tanks, 75 tracked anti-aircraft vehicles, one artillery regiment of 47 130mm guns, and anti-aircraft missiles units. Luckily, he returned alive, only with many cuts to the arms and legs due to the sharp fence around the bridge.
Chào kính tưởng niệm vị anh hùng TQLC Hoa kỳ, Đại úy John Ripley (năm 1972), bạn-anh em chiến đấu của Thiếu tá Lê Bá Bình, người hùng chỉ huy trưởng tiểu đoàn 3 TQLC VN , 700 người hùng đồng đội đã chống giữ Quảng Trị ngày 2 tháng 4, năm 1972.
Đại úy Ripley đã dùng tay và chân để bám giữ những thanh sắt làm kèo cây cầu Đông Hà để đặt 500 pounds thuốc nổ dọc cẩu trong vòng gần 4 tiếng đồng hồ trong sự yểm trợ của đạn bên ta và đạn nả tới tấp của bên địch, để phá cầu ngăn chặn đường tiến của 3 sư đoàn cơ khí (công binh), 30,000 quân và 150-200 tăng PT-76, T-54, và bao súng ống khác của quân miền Bắc.
